Laura Sperl’s latest works are non-representational and yet bear clear traces of something sprayed, coagulated, have velvety surfaces, torn photographic paper edges and are large-scale blues and rusty reds. Grains of sand inspire one to imagine the conditions under which they were formed on Caribbean sandy beaches. Covered by seawater and by sheets filled with sand, they were exposed to sunlight. Without fixing them, they are kept under the protection of light-proof packaging and darken as soon as they come to light again.
